Inner-City Elopements & Micro-Weddings ~ The Beauty of an Intimate Day

Photography by Nina Wernicke

Even though weddings are starting to make a very welcomed return, it’s apparent that the pandemic has had a ripple effect amongst couples where they are not only letting go of initial plans made pre-COVID, but are embracing a more intimate day, much closer to home.

The increasing rise of an inner-city wedding is proving to be a more practical and desirable compromise for modern-day couples looking to wed in the current climate, and one that is proving to offer a powerful alternative to extended invites and large gatherings.

So what exactly is the beauty of a more intimate occasion?

1 ~ A Smoother Process

By limiting the number of guests, couples are automatically gifted with a more relaxed affair filled with plenty of personal touches and considered detail. The general planning can often be a much smoother process and a more enjoyable experience overall.

2 ~ A Maximised Budget

Large guests lists tend to have a huge impact on a couple’s total wedding budget. Choosing to Elope or limiting numbers to under 30 enables couples to focus more on elements of the day that matter the most and allows them to be more creative in their planning and the overall aesthetic of their day.

3 ~ Quality Over Quantity

A day tailored to a couples every want and desire ultimately creates a more personal, authentic day in which a couple can really enjoy every single moment. Whether it’s just the two of them or whether they choose to spend it with their nearest and dearest, the precious hours you have on the day can be spent solely with the people you love in the best possible way.

What can an intimate inner-city wedding offer?

The answer to this is anything and everything. The UK offers some incredible city locations, ones filled with creativity, diversity and culture. Due to such a large amount of available options, couples are spoiled for choice when it comes to locations, agendas and overall experiences. Try letting go of a traditional wedding day set-up and approach your planning as though you were organising the perfect day out in a city that you adore.

An example of this could be marrying at one of London’s many beautiful Town Hall’s, followed by a trip along the Thames in a private river taxi, which can take you to your next choice of destination. This could be a memorable dining experience with a top London chef, a private and personalised tour around one of your favourite art galleries or an intimate luncheon with your nearest and dearest at a stylish city restaurant. Ultimately, be creative and make it memorable!
